Cancer Caregiver’s Support group is presenting “Surviving the Holidays” December 9th at the American Cancer Society office, 9850 Nicholas 4-5pm.  If you would like to attend this free and open to the public event, please contact the Am. Cancer Society402-383-5801.

Community Colon Cancer Support Group meets regulary as well, please call the above number for details or check the website link.

An Omaha surgeon, Dr. Alan Thorson, has been named the president of the American Cancer Society.  An open house for Dr. Thorson is planned Thursday, December 10th from 6-8pm at the American Cancer Society  office at 9850 Nicholas Street.

September’s Note that she left on the coffee pot:

(a very good spot to get one’s attention!)

But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; having a good conscience, that when they defame you as evildoers, those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed.  For it is better, if it is the will of God, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.

1 Peter 3:15-17

Femi Awodele is our guest today.

Integrity is Femi’s topic.   Our society has lost it’s sense of integrity.

Accepting and doing according to a moral /ethical guidelines.  Adhering to your ethics brings about integrity.

Femi finds ethics/moral principles in the Bible .

Psalm 119 is a good start.

Defining our roles is important. This helps in guidelines in relationships.

Relationship to the Lord, to our spouses, to our children, as employer/employee.  Keeping our promises.

Femi studies Daniel as an example of a man of integrity.  Daniel stuck to his principles when it came to even eating food.  He survived a number of political changes in an era when it was common for  previous admininstrators and their families to be  put to death.  Daniel had developed a good character and reputation and was spared the “clearing out”.

Daniel also survived attempts by those around him to set him up for disfavor with the kings.  When his opponants could find no fault, they contrived worship of the king as a means of trapping Daniel who held to the worship of the Lord.

John 15 describes our fruit.

Femi says there are people who may not like you if you don’t “compromise”, but if you stick to your principles, you will see some of those same detractors who will then call upon you for advice or comfort when things go awry in their lives.

Adhering to a set of morals and principles is the foundation of integrity.  Billy Graham, Coach Tom Osborne are some of the modern day people of integrity.

Obstacles to integrity -  listening to the Devil’s lies.  He makes you doubt your morals.  The enemy tells us it’s not fun to follow morals.

The world system or society, self doubt are contributors to this as well.

Femi encourages our brothers and sisters in Christ to be people of integrity.

September’s Note:

Lord, help me to be a woman who speaks wisely, graciously, and clearly and never foolishly, rudely, or insensitively.  Give me words that speak of the hope that is within me so I can explain my faith in a persuasive and compelling way.  May the words I speak bring others into a fuller knowledge of You.

Please do listen in to tonight’s rebroadcast at 9pm on 660 KCRO.

Yvonne and her husband Bill are with us from Strategic Air and Space Museum discussing the upcoming “Band of Brothers” event.  Some of the original people involved with this will be involved.  Their story was made into a mini-series in 2001.  Yvonne is the interim director of the museum.  Yvonne and Bill helped with the honor flights earlier this year that helped World War II vets to see the memorial built for them in Washington D.C.

The “Band of Brothers” event is this Saturday and is certainly geared towards those who have interest in WWII.

Lots of other events during the Christmas season at the museum as well.

For details on the event this Saturday and other happenings, contact Strategic Air and Space Museum – website information is available on this page.  www.sasmuseum.com

Danielle from Lauritzen Garden visits in our second segment.  The 9th Annual Christmas Poinsetta display is in focus at the gardens right now – one of September’s favorites. The Poinsetta show incorporates model trains this year.  Up to 1,500 poinsettas will be on display.

This weekend is “Holiday Happening”  Saturday 10-4, Sunday noon-4 for kids – with crafts, Santa Claus and more. Membership/entrance fee applies, plus 3 dollars for each child (for materials).

Other events – in January the spring flower show begins and runs through Mother’s Day – “The Secret Garden” is the theme.  The book of the same name will be in print 100 years.

Closed on Christmas Day and New Years’ Day, the Garden is a year round venue.  Walkways are cleared for those who enjoy winter bird watching and being outdoors.

Gift memberships are available – reduced for this gift giving season.   Special youth programs, as well as family oriented events and tours are available. Gingerbread making, wreath decorating, and lots more.

Check Lauritzen Garden’s website for more information.

Pam with the Nebraska Humane Society rounds out our program this morning, bringing a husky mix named Snowy.  Beautiful dog, pure white with blue eyes, well behaved. (Please check the NHS website for a picture and profile  of Snowy)  Loves belly rubs!

Topic today – pets outdoors in cold weather.  Even if your dog is a “cold region” breed, like a husky, need a warm place to go.  A dog house should be big enough to turn around in, but not so large that body heat can’t be retained.  Hay, straw are good insulation and ways to provide drainage.

Ideally, just bring them inside. Your dogs crave your company.  Also, make sure water is not frozen – dogs need water to digest their food.  If you keep your dog outside for any appreciable amount of time, please consider a water bowl heater.

Pam also says NHS has a food pantry for pets.  Dogs in the shelter recieve Science Diet.  Other brands are donated by individuals for use if needed by the general public.  NHS would rather give pet food to families experiencing financial difficulties, rather than the family having to give up their pet.

September’s Note:

When a wise woman speaks, her words are gracious.  Ask God to create in you a clean heart so filled with His Spirit, His love, and His truth that it will overflow love, truth, and healing in your speech.  Ask Him to help you find words that speak life to those around you.

Pastor Lonnie Parton and  Brent from Victory Fellowship in Council Bluffs are our first guests this morning.  The church is having a concert with Eddie James coming up.  Music, Word and dance, a prophetic event.

This Sunday at 6pm, at Victory.  This is free and open to the public, a free will donation will be taken.

Pastor Lonnie discusses a focus on a trailer park where tutoring is offered for children and teens.  These children are now demonstrating to their families about how their lives have been changed.  Three moms have accepted Jesus as their Savior from listening to their kids.

Pastor Lonnie says his group asked the owner of this particular trailer park to let the group use an abandoned trailer for a few days for an area to tutor, give away food, and minister to those folks living in the trailer park.  Since then, Lonnie says the owner of the park has donated a larger trailer for ongoing ministry.  Wow.  This is an effort that started over four years ago.

The Holy Spirit has stirred Lonnie and others to visit outside of the U.S., and now a focus to get Americans to have a change of heart.  In Manchester, Kentucky, an area notorious for family feuds (google George Otis Jr., for details), the Holy Spirit has worked and the drug abuse, fueds, suicides and murders decreased dramatically.

That community’s church leaders had come together and repented preceeding the working of the Holy Spirit.  Many salvations, a political turnaround, and more very awsome things have been happening in Manchester.

Transformation and reformation are discussed.  Please listen in to tonight’s rebroadcast at 9pm for all the details.

The Holy Spirit will be present where He is invited.  Doesn’t have to be in a church, it can be in your home.

Please do check out the Eddie James event this weekend at Victory.  Check www.ejworship.org for details.  The event is this Sunday at 10am, 6pm  at Victory, which is near the Mid America center in Council Bluffs.

www.vfministries.com for more information about Victory Fellowship.

In our final segment, Shawna Forsburg of the Durham Museum visits.  She discribes the Christmas Tree lighting last week.  Other activities are planned for the Christmas season.  This Friday is the Ethnic Holiday Festival.  Crafts, dancing, food, unique gifts are featured by a variety of cultural groups.  The Ethnic Holiday tree exhibit is ongoing through the season. Miniatures and Letter Press are featured as well.  Lots of other special programs.  Please check the museum’s link for more details.

September’s Note:

When a wise woman speaks, she doesn’t talk too much.  We have to be careful that we don’t spend more time talking than is necessary (Ecclesiastes 5:3).  We must ask God to make us wise in the amount of talking we do.

Steve Sheridan from Empty Tomb is guest today.  2424 K Street.  (Look for the red church at 25th and K streets in South Omaha.)

Steve says he’s always amazed how his praise team, without previous discussion, always seems to find music that dovetails with the message he teaches each Sunday morning.

Empty Tomb is mission oriented, providing a meal after service for anyone.  He says his church doesn’t do fundraising but depends on private donations.  He trusts God to provide exactly what is needed.

Service at 9:30.

Urban Plunge, a ministry that helps members of various ministries and churches see urban ministry up close and personal, always sends volunteers to Empty Tomb.  Steve says many of those volunteers will come back for visits to Empty Tomb.

September and Steve discuss some of the ministries in the area and the great things being done for those in need in the Omaha area.  Steve feels the poor are everyone’s “problem’, not something to be delegated to the government.  We need to be challenged as a believing body to do more for the poor, says Steve.

Despite tremendous efforts of such ministries as Open Door and Stephen Ministry, there’s still many many homeless turned away due to lack of room.  He feels we need to work towards NOBODY having a place to sleep.

Christians need to lay down divisiveness and come together as one body to take care of people who are in need, lonely, sick, hungry, thirsty.

Steve says God has used some humbling events to help him learn compassion for fellow human beings.  We are blessed when we’re able to meet other’s needs.

Revival is the spark needed to light the fire that will take care of not only church goers in need but the area homeless people.

Steve feels it is an honor to minister to homeless people – many are veterans.  All souls are precious to the Lord.  Some people are homeless due to poor choices, some homelessness is  created by social situations.  But we all deserve a second chance for not only the material needs to be met, but for their spiritual rejuvination/replenishment.

Please listen in to tonight’s rebroadcast at 9pm on 660 KCRO to hear today’s program.

September’s Note:

When a wise woman speaks, she tells the truth.  When we don’t speak the truth, we hurt others as well as ourselves.

Therefore, putting away lying, “Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor,” for we are members of one another.   Ephesians 4:25

Thursday & Friday, November 26 & 27th, 2009

We’re blessed to have these two days off, and we’re equally blessed to present a couple of “Best of” programs, both featuring Jeff Kaiser as guest host.  The first one Jeff interviews Elmer Murdock, and for Friday, Jeff talks with Dave Newell.

Much to be grateful for – please remember the One who blesses you.

September’s Note:

Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.  And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.  If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.    John 14:12-14

Our first guest today is congressman Lee Terry.  Healthcare reform is still in focus.  The federal measure has gone to the Senate for debate.

Aside from the trillions already spent by the new administration, this health care reform proposal will also go into the trillions if approved.  Some of the proposed sources for this expenditure are raising taxes and taking from education.  Lee says if education monies are tapped by the federal government, this will mean that local property taxes will go up to make the difference.

Someone HAS to pay for all of this – and it’s going to be the average you and I.

Medicare and Medicaide fundings are being boiled down to a shell game as well according to Terry.

For full details, please listen in to tonight’s rebroadcast at 9pm on 660 KCRO.

Medicare part D – prescription drugs for seniors – deadline for changing your plans is coming up, please do check in and see what plan might work better for you says Lee.  Volunteers Assisting Seniors will help you with this if needed.    December 16th VAST will be at Lee’s office and will be available for questions and assistance.  You can call Lee’s office at 397-9944 for details.  You can also call VAST at 444-6617

Our second set of guests are from The Heartland Gatekeeper, this is a segment we aired last month, describes how this Christian newspaper was founded.

September’s Note:  The greatest blessings will come to you when you ask God to use you to touch the lives of others.

He who has a generous eye will be blessed,  for he gives of his bread to the poor.   Proverbs 22:9

Our first set of guests today are Cathy and Dwayne Piper, former residents of Israel. The couple visited Israel a couple of times and felt very strongly about the nation.  Through God’s workings, they were offered a position at a guest house in Israel and lived there.

Cathy says the preparation and observance of the Sabbath is very different from here in the United States.  Phones are not answered, women don’t cook or clean.  Meals are made the day before. On Sabbath mornings, men would be seen running to the synogogues.  This is a weekly observance that the Friday evening meal would be like our Thanksgiving.

Other feasts and observances are much more “alive” than in our culture.  The feast of tabernacles is vivid.  Channuka is celebrated this year near December 15th.  This is the festival of lights based on Maccabees, when one day’s oil for the menorah lasted for eight days .

The Pipers remind us that Christians should stand with Israel, Romans 11 is a foundation for this alliance.   Amos and Isaiah also have important passages.

Anti Semitism is not biblical.  Christians are grafted in to God’s people.  The Pipers, and others, feel the United States is now headed on a collision course with God’s plan.

Prayer points for listeners:  Stick with your Bible! Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem, for being part of the Body, pray for the Jewish people so that they would hunger and thirst for God again.

The Pipers are helping plan a trip to Israel, along with Al Riskowski and Karen Boling with the Nebraska Family Council. (you can check NFC’s website for more details as well.)

Please listen in again tonight at 9 for the rebroadcast of this program to hear all the details.

Julie with Fontenelle Forest rounds out our third segment – even when it’s raining like today, there’s still things to do at Fontenelle.  She says just DESTRESSING from the holidays is a big function at the forest.  There are always planned activities, check the website schedule for details, and there’s the backpack program where you can take a prepacked back pack (i.e. binoculars, etc) and go into the forest for on-your-own exploration.

A Pancake brunch and carrolling event is planned Saturday, December 19th.  Details on this family event at www.fontenelleforest.org

September’s Note:

Lord, show me what You want me to do today to be a blessing to others around me.  Specifically, show me how I can serve my family, my friends, my church, and the people whom You put in my life.  I don’t want to get so wrapped up in my own life.  I don’t want to get so wrapped up in my own life that I don’t see the opportunity for ministering Your life to others.

First up this morning is one of our HyVee Dieticians,  Jen Allie discussing healthy holiday baking.  She cites using Splenda for baking, but use the baking version – it has some sugar to it, otherwise your baked goods won’t raise right.

Also, ways of getting enough fiber.  Please listen in to tonight’s rebroadcast for all the hints.  Also, check HyVee’s website link located on this page for LOTS more recipes cooking hints.

Black Bean Brownies are worth looking in to!  Lots of interesting ways to pull out some of the bad in baking.

Wendae  Sorenson and Michelle Wallace are our guests in the second segment of today’s program with “Street Mission”.  Both were so touched by the sadness and lonliness of street people/homeless folks.

Donations of coats, gloves, scarfs, hats,  blankets, sleeping bags,  winter boots,  cold weather gear are needed for this outreach.  Monetary donations are certainly acceptable! :)

This program has a family adoption for Christmas, so if you’re interested, please do call.  Volunteers are welcome as well.

Please contact “In Jesus’ Name” Services for dropoff information – please call 712-352-0950.

www.ijnservices.org or google “In Jesus Name Services of Council Bluffs” the offices are located at 425 Fleming Ave. in Council Bluffs.

The Omaha Police Department’s Bridget Fitzpatrick visits for the third segment.  She says daytime burglaries are increasing.  She advises to keep doors, windows and Garage doors locked.  Take precautions when you’re out of town.  Use timers to give the appearance of activity in the house.  Have someone check on your house.

Ask neighbors to park in your driveway or put their trash out on your side on garbage day.

There is NO safe hiding place for keys outdoors.   Burglars will sometimes knock on the front door – if there is no answer, they will break in the back door.  Also, if something is out of kilter before you even come in the door (after you’ve been out of the house) call the police immediatly, do not go in on your own.

If you have a safe, bolt it down, keep it locked.  Inventory your expensive items, engrave things.

Have good locks.  Consult a good locksmith.

If you find unscrewed  outdoor lightbulbs call the police immediatly when you discover outside lights that have been tampered with.  Someone may be planning “no good”.

September’s Note:

If you love God, you will love people and be motivated to do whatever you can to help them.  Prayer is a good place to start.

Let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.  1 John 3:18

Pastor Phil Waggoner is our first guest this morning, with guest host JD Anthony.  September has a vacation day today.

Pastor Phil discusses parenting from the book of Proverbs.  Specifically chapter 10.    Phil says it’s important to instill a sense of confidence in a child, but it’s also important to impart wisdom.

Diligence and prudence are Godly wisdom.  Walking in integrity.  Discipline is important.

Discipline does not mean to  abuse a child.  Spanking – see Proverbs 13.  The rod of correction – not the rod of anger or the rod of “this is the last straw”.  Parent’s anger needs to be put away before discipline is utilized.

Children WILL disobey, , so contemplate courses of discipline before hand and be calm about it.  Consistant, diligent discipline is needed.  Loving correction is something that will help keep your child from Hell.

Pastor Phil says he is AGAINST child abuse.  Please listen in to tonight’s rebroadcast at 9 for all Pastor Phil says.

Bob Koley from the YMCA rounds out our program this morning. Discussing the “Strong Kids” program.  A fundraising effort to help subsidize lower income families costs at the Y.  This is a nationwide effort.  Bob says the C in the YMCA DOES stand for “Christian”, and a renewed interest in that aspect of the organization is underway.  If you would like to help out with the effort, please check the web link on this page.

September’s note she left for us on the fridge where we would see it:

Lord, help me to serve You the way You want me to.  Reveal to me any area of my life where I should be giving to someone right now.  Open my eyes to see the need.  Give me a generous heart to give to the poor.  Help me to be a good steward of the blessings You have given me by sharing what I have with others.  Use me to touch the lives of others with the hope that is in me.
